MgO-CaO refractories have attracted much attention because of their good slag resistance and unique ability to purify the molten steel. However, the poor sintering properties and hydration resistance of MgO-CaO composite restrict their further applications. Many research results have showed that adopting the two-step calcining process and introducing sintering aids can solve these problems to some extent. Magnesium, calcium and barium element all belong to the alkaline earth family and show similar physical and chemical properties. Introducing BaO into the MgO-CaO composite will not damage the high temperature properties. In addition, BaO also have the ability to purify the molten steel. In this work, the influence of barium oxide addition on the sintering properties, the microstructure and hydration resistance of doloma was investigated for the first time.
