内容简介

Metallic silicon is generally added to ALO-C refractory mixes for slide gate plates to improve the mechanical strength and oxidative abrasion resistance. The effect of the particle sizing of added Si, and the firing temperatures, on the mechanical properties of these materials was studied. Due to adding a specified amount of Si to Al2O3-C mixes, the reaction of Si was enhanced more with higher firing temperature and smaller particle size of the Si. And further, the greater the amount of Si reaction, and the reaction products, the higher the mechanical strength of the materials. The reaction of Si starts from the surface, due to active oxidation, resulting in the formation of reaction products such as β-SiC. SiO2 and Si2ON2. When the firing temperature is 1200°C or less. Much Si02 is produced by the reaction of CO with SiO. generated by the oxidation of fine Si particles. However, for Firings > 1200°C. the SiO2 formed is reduced to SiO due to reaction with CO. and reacts with the carbon in the matrix, to produce much stable SiC. The mechanical strength of materials can be improved by enhancing the reaction efficiency, by reducing the particle size of the added Si. without increasing the amount of Si.
