内容简介

When bricks containing carbon are applied to the work lining of steel ladles, the higher thermal conductivity of the bricks causes serious problems with ladle shell deformation and temperature drop in the molten steel. Although many attempts have been made to solve these problems, effective answers are not yet available. A typical steel ladle was examined using Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. The temperature distributions in the ladle and temperature drop in the molten steel were examined and compared for a standard ladle, a ladle with a work lining of low thermal conductivity bricks (hereafter called "low TC ladle"; and a ladle with insulating bricks as safety lining (hereafter called "insulated ladle"). An effort was made in the calculations to include actual operating conditions as much as possible except for the arc heating operation by which the molten steel is heated. The mechanisms for reduced molten steel temperature and increased ladle shell temperature were different in the ladles examined. The heat stored in the low TC ladle and the heat radiated through the ladle shell of the insulated ladle are controlling factors. The insulated ladle would have poor corrosion resistance because of the higher lining temperature , so the low TC ladle must be also better in this respect. This suggests that the low TC ladle will be very useful.
