Materials in the Al_2O_3-SiO_2 system are effective as anti-alumina buildup materials for steel continuous casting nozzles. A summary of the results obtained in this experiment is as follows:① When pores were clogged with melted and vitrified aggregate, the gas which is a source producing alumina was blocked.②A smooth surface aided the anti-alumina buildup effect. In practical continuous casting, Al_2O_3-SiO_2 system materials have shown good results, but further improvements in the prevention of ventilation and the maintenance of a smooth hot face are expected in future.
