With regard to zirconia grain in zirconia-graphite refractories, controlling the mixing ratios among the coarse, middle and fine grain fractions, it was possible to realize a dense texture with Tower apparent porosity and higher bulk density and an improvement in the corrosion resistance. Also, by controlling the grain size distribution of the zirconia it is possible to maintain high corrosion resistance even in low zirconia content material. This is expected to provide great possibilities in the future to improve the thermal shock resistance and to reduce the refractories cost.
