内容简介

In order to improve the corrosion resistance of MgO-C bricks, we investigated the addition of magnesium powder in combination with aluminum powder, which had been widely used, and obtained the following conclusions: (1) Combined use of aluminum and magnesium powders resulted in structural deterioration as a result of the escape of Mg vapor, which caused reduction in the corrosion resistance. (2) Addition of a boron-containing third component in combination with magnesium powder was found to suppress Mg volatilization after heating in a reduced atmosphere. It also permitted a comparatively small quantity of Mg to improve the corrosion resistance of MgO-C-(Al) bricks, thus reducing the negative effect of Mg addition on the spalling resistance. (3) There is a possibility that addition of a boron-containing third component in combination with magnesium powder results in the formation of a liquid phase containing 13203, which fills the void in the secondary periclase layer and suppresses the escape of magnesium vapor. Addition of Mg powder is effective in improving the performance of MgO-C bricks. In the light of magnesium's strong affinity to oxygen, however, strict safety measures should be taken against ignition or explosion of magnesium.
