The service life of basic bricks in cement rotary kilns is directly affected by the formation of cement coating on the hot face. Recently, the coating and adherence has become unstable because of the increased use of wastes such as fly ash, waste plastics, waste tires, etc, as raw materials and fuel. The effect of fly ash replacing clay in cement raw meal on coating adherence was investigated.Results showed that the addition of fly ash in place of clay in cement raw material, coupled with a reducing atmosphere, will adversely affect the coating adherence on basic bricks in a cement rotary kiln.
