Recently, because of the problems of dioxins, and other toxic and reactive chemicals, the use of melting type waste incinerators has increased; the linings used are mainly Al_2O_3-Cr_2O_3 castables. However, the Cr_2O_3 will be oxidized to hazardous hexavalent chromium under some conditions, therefore the need for chromium-free lining materials has greatly increased. In the previous paper~(1)), the development of a chromium-free castable of MgO-MgO· Al_2O_3-ZrO_2 type, which had better corrosion resistance than the conventional A1_2O_3-Cr_2O_3 castable, was reported. The field test results of the chromium-free castable are presented in this paper.
