It is essential to increase the service life of casting nozzles, that is, immersion nozzles and semi-immersion nozzles, to improve the quality of continuous casting steel and caster productivity. An improved mold powder has been developed for them, but the further improvements are required. It is important to investigate the mold powder materials in combination with casting nozzles because the mold powder has a large influence on erosion at the powder line of a casting nozzle.Recently, a mold powder developed on the basis of a new concept and applied to various small section casters, such as billet casters, bloom casters, and beam blanc casters, is progressing, and good results are obtained.
