In recent years, an eccentric bottom tapping (EBT) system has become used widely for electric arc furnaces (EAF). It is characterized by slag-free tapping, and increase in the relative area of water-cooled furnace wall, and a reduction in tapping time. A schematic picture of an EAF equipped with EBT is shown in Fig. 1.Consolidation of the conventional tapping tube assembly and the terminal block into a barge mono-block with a large cold isostatic press (CIP) made the installation of the EBT tubes easier and improved their service life. These improvements are outlined in this paper.
