MgO-C bricks have excellent resistance to slag corrosion and thermal shock, and therefore are widely used in electric arc furnaces, converters, and other steelmaking applications. Various reports ~(1)2)) have been published regarding the corrosion of MgO-C bricks, which is considered to proceed to proceed by the following two mechanisms:(1)Oxidation of carbon by oxygen and iron oxide in slag(2)Corrosion of magnesia aggregate by slagIn this work, the ho face chemistry was analyzed by EDX after the corrosion test with converter slag, and the mechanism(s) of corrosion of MgO-C brick was determined based on the change of slag composition from the ho face to the slag/brick interface.
