The importance of the coating adherence property of bricks used in cement rotary kiln is different depending on the position in the kiln. This paper describes a convenient method for evaluating coating adherence on bricks, and reports the results of a study of the effect of alumina additions to spinel bricks on the coating adherence property, as a countermeasure for mud ring formation.Using a newly developed, convenient test method for measuring coating adherence, the coating adherence property of spinel bricks was compared. It was determined that increasing the alumina content of the spinel bricks, was an effective way of reducing the adherence of the coating.
