Castables are widely used in different parts of furnaces as a reliable refractory. Chamotte is a cheap and feasible raw material for manufacturing low temperature castables. On the other hand, microsilica is used to increase the performance of castables. In this study, the effect of microsilica addition on room temperature properties of chamotte based castables is studied. Flow ability, MOR, CCS, porosity, setting time, bulk density and apparent porosity are measured according to ASTM. Microsilica is used 0,3,5,10 & 15 wt percent in a castable with 15 percent cement. Fondu and Secar 71 are used to study the effect of cement type. 0.1 percent TPP is used as water reducing agent and deflocculant.
