Vaporization of pitch in BE trough refractories causes a poor work environment because of smoke and bad smell. Some pitches also contain substances that are harmful to the human body. In this report, we investigated about pitch-free environment friendly materials for the BE' trough. We have developed some pitch-free materials without hurting structure density by using a carbon raw material which is high in fixed carbon and does not require an increase in water addition.We also examined various properties of one pitch free materials. The pitch free mix was superior to the pitch containing mix in oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance. Also, the pitch free mix has a high creep value, which makes it resistant to cracking because of the thermal stress caused by thermal expansion.Pitch free material will contribute to not only improving the working environment but also stable BF trough operation.
