Three metal powder mixes, composed of 20 mass% Sn, 70 mass% Cu, and 3, 5, or 10 mass% Ti, were mixed with an organic binder in a polyethylene vessel for 1 h. Three diamond mixes were prepared by mixing 10 mass% of diamond powder with 90 mass% of each of the above-mentioned metal powder mixes, containing an organic binder, for 5 h. Each diamond mix was formed under 20 MPa with a uniaxial press, and then, the formed bodies (hereafter called test pieces) were sintered in an N_2 atmosphere containing 5% H_2 for 5-30 min at 760-1100°C. For sintering, the test pietes were embedded in C powder contained in a alumina crucible.
